EXAMPLE PROJECTS

YEAR 7 INTRODUCTION

The three projects covered are designed to help pupils acquire skills and give them experience of working with a variety materials, components and design techniques.

Assessment is done by a combination of pupil peer assessment and teacher terminal assessment. The department's aim is to help pupils understand how work is marked and what constitutes good work. Feedback to pupils is given verbally throughout the project and at the end in the form of written comments. Pupils are levelled throughout keystage 3. The department has a policy of feedback focused on continual improvement and do not issue pupils with levels they have achieved.

Workshop Rules

  • No running.
  • Bags and coats must be placed in designated area.
  • Any damage to machines or equipment must be reported to a D&T teacher immediately.
  • Long hair, jewelry, long sleeves etc. can be a hazard particularly when using machinery. Tie back, remove, or roll up as appropriate.
  • Goggles must be worn when soldering, using machinery and any other tasks where instructed to do so by your teacher.
  • Use aprons for tasks that are appropriate: painting, gluing etc.
  • Listen to your teachers safety for all specific tasks

 

Basic equipment

  1. Pencil. hb pencil minimum.
  2. A selection of coloured pencils may be benificial.
  3. Ruler.
  4. Apron.
  5. A4 folder for project work.

 

Passport transition targets

  • Organise book with course structure and assessment sheets.
  • Produced more than 2 sketched ideas and write a clear reason for choosing a design idea that also relates to the specification rules.
  • Work safely on a machine, demonstrating independence.
